Mike Cameron

Mike's first car was a Mitsubishi Lancer in the 1977 Pall Mall National Wanganui Rally. Mike was 1977 Group 1 0-1300cc NZ Rally Series Champion driving a Mitsubishi Lancer. In the 1990 Shell Silver Fern 21st Anniversary Rally he was 12th overall and a Galant 16L. Co-drove for Bruce Herbert in the 1991 International Rally in a Toyota Celica. Mike has competed in international Rallies 1977-1980, 1982 - 1984 and 1990 - 1991, then co-drove for Ron Shapley in an Escort in the 1999 NZ Historic Rally. he has competed in 87 rallies with only 4 DNF's. Mikes hero's have been Andrew Cowan and Possum Bourne. He enjoys the fun of rallying and remembers back to the 1972 Heatway Rally where he was a road Block Marshall. Mike is also a Motorsport NZ Steward, a Competitor Relations Officer and a COW Trainer (being a farmer that creates a topic of conversation)

Mike's worst moment in rallying was Joining the "Rally Rollover Club".

Mike's best moment in rallying was National Champion 1st year as a driver.

Helen Cameron

of Stratford New Zealand

Helen Co-drove with Mike in the 1990 21st Anniversary Shell Silver Fern Rally. Then she drove their Galant 16L in 1991, following the Silver Fern in 1990, competing in all local Sprints, Hillclimbs, and completed her first Rally at Taumarunui. Just happened to be the last Rally they held and she didn't finish last!!! Helen also entered the Central Region Rallysprint Series and won the Lady Driver's points. Mike stayed home, milked the cows and babysat the two girls.

This car was built by Chrysler Australia and was originally 1400cc but has been "stretched" to 1597 and is otherwise standard. Re-built for Classic rallies and will be used for the first time this year 2006.
