WHAT IT WAS ALL ABOUT ?

The 2006 NZ Silver Fern Rally was a week long international marathon car rally event, comprising of around 1000km of high speed special stages on gravel roads in New Zealand 's scenic South Island . The backdrop of NZ's Southern Alps mountain range, and some of the best rallying roads in the world is what both local and overseas enthusiasts and spectators experienced.

The 2006 NZ Silver Fern Rally, was the first time a major International Status Rally, of this type, has been held in NZ's South Island since the days of the marathon Heatway and Motogard Rallies, in the 1970’s and 80’s. It saw 6-1/2 days of competitive rallying on stages as long as 90km’s in pre 92 Classic, Historic and 2wd cars.

The organisers dream of bringing bring back the “days of old”, in NZ motor sport, when rallying was an adventure, with the emphasis on endurance and reliability, but with a fun social side attached, proved to be one of the successes of the Rallying year.
