Charlie's quest to find the sport’s cheapest ‘bang for buck’ is a project that has been a part of his motor sport business in Hamilton recently. So impressed with the outcome of this exercise, the Team is planning to contest the 2012 epay Silver Fern Rally and would welcome expressions of interest from local or overseas potential entrants who are looking for an affordable way to be a part of this fantastic adventure. A sister car built to identical specification is well into the build process and one or both cars could be run as Sub Teams under the CEM umbrella- the benefits of this are obvious. Flexible options available.

The initial (experimental) car, a 1997 Honda 1600 V-TEC was purchased as a road car in Nov 2010. Competition shocks, brake pads, a close ratio gear kit, a Type R LSD, and the usual safety equipment were fitted and the car was rolled out of the workshop ready to compete in the 2011 Top Half Rally series. With 5 rounds contested, consistent reliability have rewarded the team with the overall win, testimony to the car's ‘out of the box’ performance! Tyre and fuel consumption have been pleasantly manageable given the optimistically low budget set aside for the seasons racing.

I own the ex Phil Ornstein 1972 2 door Hillman Avenger Rally car, this had an extensive in the late 70.s early 80s, before we bought it and used it in several Targa s in the North [ car 105-205 ] It has all the original specs, 2ltre brazillian motor , close ratio factory box,lsd , factory quikrak , orig Helda twinmaster etc etc , any parts replaced for safety etc have been retained so can be put back as orig , the engine has just had a freshen with new forged pistons , rods valves etc etc [ runs a new steel crank] This is a very reliable car that my daughter drove in the Targa with me as navigator , but time moves on and we have not used the car for 2 years , will be sold with new rego wof and motorsport authority up to date . We feel a fair price with its Rally of NZ history and condition and being probably the last racing 2 door Avenger left is in the vicinity of $45k I hope this vehicle will be of interest to someone as it would be great to see it back on the gravel again

New Zealand Silver Fern Rally November 2010

Escort Mk1 For Sale or lease with event support.

Built to NZ local classic regulations, this car contested the last Silver Fern Rally, being driven by owner and event chairman Gary Smith. The car would be supported on this years event by Gary’s son and the cars builder Adrian Smith. Adrian is a former MSD Hyundai World Rally Team and Kenneth Eriksson’s #2 technician, and therefore anyone buying or leasing the can be assured of the cars build and event support quality.

The car features a rebuilt 2 litre BDG engine, with new valves, springs, followers, pistons, rings & bearings and oil pump installed. The engine has around 235bhp showing 183bhp at the wheels.

A rebuilt Quaife Type 9 Heavy Duty Alloy gearbox with recently fitted new bearings & syncros and only 700 stage kms on the gear set

The chassis has Group 4 Bilstien suspension, with a fully floating hubs Narrow Atlas fitted with a 5.1 final drive ratio, location is by a “long” four link with panhard rod set up, which is “period” late Mk1 & Mk2 specification.

The car features a welded in roll cage and the usual safety equipment
